Children's dentistry deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in the teeth and oral cavity of children and teenagers.
We take extra special care with our younger patients, because we know how frightening and stressful a visit to the dentist can be, and that children do not understand or accept the need for treatment as easily as adults. Milk teeth are just as susceptible to tooth decay as permanent teeth, and if this is not treated can lead to extremely painful inflammatory conditions.
We treat tooth decay in milk teeth in the same way as with permanent teeth, by removing the affected tissue and filling it, although the type of treatment depends on the age of the child and the level of development in the tooth. We can carry out all procedures using anaesthetic, where necessary.
We also possess the latest in X-ray equipment to help diagnose our younger patients' dental problems, which is of vital importance since the health of the milk teeth has a direct bearing on the development of the permanent teeth.
The tooth buds of the permanent teeth are located in the jawbone right next to the roots of the milk teeth, so if there is any kind of infection in the milk tooth root canal, this can cause serious problems for the development of the permanent tooth bud located in the bone next to it. It is therefore extremely important for the milk tooth to remain healthy or at least properly treated until the time comes for it to fall out naturally.
Extracting it prematurely can have a negative effect on the growth of the jawbone, resulting in a lack of space for the permanent tooth and associated bite problems (crowding, incorrect alignment of the teeth or the teeth remaining in the bone).
Our clinic provides a fully comprehensive range of dental treatment for children in highly pleasant surroundings.
