Preventing gum, tooth and oral cavity diseases.
Preventive dental care includes the following procedures:
If plaque build-up on teeth is not removed daily it will turn into tartar, which can lead to the development of gum disease and periodontitis, and result in the loss of teeth. In order to prevent this, you should visit your dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned. As the procedure is pain free, it is done manually with a curette or with ultrasound and an air polisher.
The procedure is done without anaesthetic, but where there are high levels of tartar or the bottom of the teeth are exposed, a local anaesthetic may be given or the procedure may be done over several stages, to reduce discomfort. After all the teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, they are polished using special brushes and polishing pastes, which leave a perfectly smooth surface. Provided proper oral hygiene is maintained, it is less likely that the teeth will see a build up of tartar following this procedure.
